History – Competence for more than 130 years

In 1888, Wilhelm Hamm founded a trading company in Osnabrueck that sold high-quality leather to shoemakers. Thanks to solid management, it survived the turmoil of both world wars as well as the Great Depression. Wilhelm Hamm GmbH & Co. KG already added the wholesale marketing of footwear to its leather trading activities as early as in 1934.

The world is getting bigger

In the 1960s, the company evolved from a wholesaler into an importer and specialist retail business partner with international sourcing offices in Italy, Spain and India.

Ideas for a successful future

From 1990 onwards, the great-grandson of company founder Dr Hans-Peter Hamm established a new business area: the production of branded footwear under licence. The first of these licences, for Marc O'Polo, was acquired in 1992. Other internationally renowned brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Napapijri and Peak Performance soon followed.

Continuity through a strong family

In 2000, Dr Hans-Peter Hamm separated the licensed brand business from the HR Group, which had been the result of the Hamm Group's merger with Reno, in the course of a management buyout.

Moritz Hamm is now the fifth generation of the family to run the business.
